Most people who have visited amusement parks are familiar with the term, ‘You need to be this tall to ride’.
Nobody will look at that sign and say, ‘Hey, I’m not tall enough, but let me try my luck’, knowing fully well that they are going to get turned down.
I mean, the sign is clearly stated, right?
The same applies to the world of recruitment and job applications.
Most of the time, under-qualified candidates apply to a job because the requirements are not clearly stated, and they are misled into thinking that they are a good fit for the job, even when they are not.
I mean, who has the time to fill out an application, knowing fully well that they have no chance of securing an interview?
To help your vetting process, and also help candidates know if they are qualified for your job or not, ensure your job advert is specific enough.
The job description should accurately reflect the duties and responsibilities of the position.
When the job description is well-written, it produces a realistic picture of a job and helps the candidate to answer the question, “Am I qualified for this role?”
